The national smart metering programme was established by the Commission for the Regulation of Utilities (CRU) with ESB Networks tasked to deliver the rollout programme.
As part of the national climate action plan, all electricity meters in homes, farms and businesses are being replaced and upgraded nationwide.
This national rollout forms a key part of Ireland journey towards a low carbon future and TLI Group are contracted to ESB Networks to replace existing electricity meters with next generation digital smart meters.
The smart meters will support Ireland’s transition to a low carbon future by enabling the development of smart grids, microgeneration and supporting the electrification of heat and transport.
The benefits of the smart metering programme are evident, and they will provide a greener, more sustainable electricity infrastructure for future generations.
The smart meters provide customers with greater access to accurate information on energy usage and provide greater control over energy consumption. The smart metering rollout will also reduce the need for estimated bills and significantly reduce the need for manual meter readings and estimated bills.
Furthermore, the new meters will allow technicians find faults quicker and manage the network more efficiently.
The deployment of smart meters began in 2019 and TLI Group continue to be a trusted delivery partner of ESB Networks for this critical utility project.
